Burns Patent Law was founded in 2020 by Dr. Michael P. Burns, a distinguished patent attorney with a unique blend of legal acumen and scientific proficiency.

Dr. Burns is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Law, holding a Juris Doctorate. His academic journey started at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and an M.S. in the same field. As a Presidential Scholar at Case Western Reserve University, he achieved a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering.

A Decade of Patent Experience

With nearly a decade dedicated to the intricate world of patent law, Dr. Burns is not just an attorney; he’s a seasoned registered patent prosecutor. His journey commenced as a law clerk at the esteemed intellectual property firm of Vidas, Arrett & Steinkraus in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, during his law school days.

From 2014 to 2020, Mr. Burns served as an associate in the Orange County office of Knobbe Martens. Through these experiences, Dr. Burns honed his practice under the guidance of top-talent attorneys and scientists, shaping him into the accomplished patent attorney he is today.

Beyond the courtroom, Dr. Burns has ventured into the realms of mechanical engineering, cell biology, molecular biology, and cardiac physiology. His post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Chicago and The Ohio State University’s Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute bear testament to his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
